micro celebrations / macro impact

We all know events /weddings / parties have been the MOST effected this year. I went from having 12 events on my calendar to 2…that are even still pending. it is the year of saying “oh well” or accepting disapointments. Changing your plans is the theme for 2020. From cancellations to re-planning I wanted to share my top 5 solutions that can give your micro events macro impact in our “new normal”!

ALSO, exciting news… I have never done this before but I am now offering HOURLY CONSULTATION CALLS or E-DESIGN help for those who have great ideas but may need help executing it!

back to the post…

  1. STICK TO A THEME

-I always say that a cohesive design begins at the very beginning. Most of the time that is with the paper goods. Now more than ever I feel that a small event or wedding should have a clear theme. Start with “pinning” pretty pictures then take a step back and see what common themes you have… from there dial into your top priorities and make a check list to accomplish this theme!

2. MAKE EVERY DETAIL COUNT

-This is always my motto but sometimes with larger head counts this can get a little lost. So the silver lining in these smaller micro style events is that it really allows for more time and planning on those small details. For example, starting with the entrance of a space I make a spreadsheet for each and every detail that will be present in each room. For tabletop I create a “mock” table setting with each item on the table listed underneath. This really helps me and my team on the day of when we are pressed with time to complete every task and detail!

3. SPEND MONEY WISELY

-Smaller headcount = smaller spend. It is no secret that having a large headcount eats away at your budget. The more people the more you spend 90% of the time. So now that you have a smaller guest list spend your budget on things your guests will notice and really take away with them. Tap into the senses: sight, smell, touch and sound.

SIGHT | flowers, flowers, flowers. the more the better! I am a huge flower lover so this is always where I say the more the merrier …if you are saying “oh they just die” — then I suggest you donate them to churches, businesses, HOSPITALS, and anyone who could need a pick me up during these times…which lets face it EVERYONE.

SMELL | flowers also contribute to the smell of your event, as well as lighting a signature scent which I do at every single doorway of one of my events. It immediately helps people feel in a cozy environment

TOUCH | upgrade those tabletop items: linens, flatware, glassware, etc! guests will spend more time at a seated dinner which means more time to check out the quality of the items on the table.

SOUND | music of any kind is CRUCIAL to creating a good vibe during an event. If you have the money and space capacity live music is always my choice because it is interactive with guests and leaves a long lasting impression!

4. CREATIVE DISPLAYS

-this goes along with your theme but I think a WOW factor is a creative display for a photo wall or a seating chart welcome. Even if it doesn’t have a purpose, the purpose is to give a warm welcome and add a little impact.

5. PARTY FAVORS

-usually I tell clients to skip this but now that you have a condensed guest list you have an opportunity to let guests leave with a memory, make sure the favor is something people will use again. Plus if its a smaller event feel free to use the favors within the decor like this cute leather journal used at an intimate dinner party!
