all about orange

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics.  Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

ORANGE IS MY COLOR.

Lastly, Orange is not just for October...I think it is a year round color that pairs beautifully with many other hues- especially neutrals such as gold + white used here.  But also it pairs well with "in tone" colors like this burgundy/ red combo used in the florals above.  These orange DAHLIAS are some of the most beautiful I have seen in a while. I love this color pop it brings to the all ivory look!

"HOW I HOST" w/ 12th table

A few weeks back I got to share "how I host" with 12th table.  It was a perfect fall day filled with my favorite things: entertaining outdoors, rich fall colors, a pretty table filled with fresh flowers + the beautiful pieces from 12th table

BLACK + WHITE DOWNTOWN

When the lovely team of Please be Seated contacted me to do a shoot featuring their new FAB rental items I was THRILLED. If you can't tell by now, I love modern design...and I especially love the timeless pairing of black + white.  This shoot was right up my alley and I am in love with their new pieces. Lele Fain is responsible for all the crisp gorgeous images below!

BLACK is never going to go out of style. AND these Please Be Seated's black "casper" dining chairs (here) transformed a $12 poly linen into much more of a luxe look.

For the tabletop: I wanted to keep it clean but also incorporate mixed metals for a contrast.  Copper had it's moment a couple years back and I think it's time to bring it back again- find similar square chargers here .  The beautiful menu cards made in house from The Dotted Line were a perfect touch of feminine against the harsh black napkin!

a black + white marble couch people... need I say more?

Finally...

1.  HOW GREAT are these linen less bistro tables.  I love the clean lines + ghost chair pairing for a non fussy look.

 2.  Black panels FTW on their "in the round" bar (here) -1/2 the round pictured.  The panels are interchangeable for any event + creates a unique design / makes a big statement.

3. I am also obsessed with how this ALL looks in the beautiful space of Country Music Hall of Fame against their legendary windows!

september minimal

Mid September is always a little bit of an awkward transition.  You start seeing the "pumpkin everything" trend creep in but you're just not quite there yet.

Below is a recent mock up in my studio for an early September 2018 bride who loves the fall but leans more towards the earthy tones / isn't a big "flower person" + not into the pumpkin theme.

Rest assured, just because it's September - it doesn't mean you have to go full on fall.  Stay true to what style you love instead of what season it is!

happy planning - molly

GIFTING SEASON.

As a (once) bride the wonderful joy of registering for wedding gifts became an overwhelming task simply because there are SO MANY options.  Now- I am often asked by either friends or clients "what did you register for" ...and to be honest, I had NO idea what I was doing at the time so I will N O T be telling you to register for 500 different scented candles at Bed, Bath and Beyond, I have a few other things that would take priority over those now.

I'd love to help by sharing a few tips + some of my favorite things that are amazing staples... to (hopefully) make this "to do" / gift giving a little easier.

THE CEDAR LANE

STICK TO BASICS.

The most important thing you can gift to others OR register for are the B A S I C S.  Things that you use everyday are far more important than the trendy options you see now but may not be as cute in a year or so.

Stick to the basics + you won't regret it!

1.  My favorite daily dishes + coffee mugs are here.

2.  My favorite GOOD knife set

3.  The BEST grip glassware

4.  Lightweight + modern (+affordable) silverware

5.  New to cooking?... check out my new favorite easy meal cookbook by local Nashvillian "Laura Lee Balanced" here

THE CEDAR LANE

MAKE IT EASY.

Make your registry easily accessible to the gracious people giving gifts.  Have 3-4 retail options that link seamlessly to your registry from your wedding website.  This allows people to choose the gift themselves + simplify the giving process.

My favorite user friendly wedding websites sites are:

1. SQUARESPACE

2.  THEKNOT

3.  WIX

BEACH PLEASE.

The beach is my happy place.

Happy (almost) Labor Day weekend! I'd love to share with you all one of my favorite places,  EXUMA, BAHAMAS.  It's laid back island vibes + clear blue water make it pretty hard to leave.  Exuma is not only an amazing vacation spot but it would also be the perfect place for a destination getaway OR special event.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS + EVENTS

I am always a huge advocate for destination weddings.  They're fun, intimate and the ones you love most are surrounding you in a BEAUTIFUL place. It becomes less about "one day" + more about the quality time spent on a trip at a unique location!

Whether you're into classic style, more of a trendy tropical bride, or a lover of color: below are inspirations to entice you to get planning on your destination event!

Dreamy destination wedding locations are linked below, some are "all- inclusive" but my biggest piece of advice is to choose a location that fits your style.

Also, of course, hire outside help if you want extra personalization than the venue provides. When adding the element of travel it's always better to have someone guide you in decisions, read over contracts on your behalf + be your on-site advocate to setup the details / your vision on the day of.  After all ... you'll be a little busy :)

SUNDAY SUPPER.

SUNDAY'S ARE MY FAVORITE.

it's a perfect day to relax, drink good wine, hang out with friends or lay low for the week ahead.  This past Sunday was especially great. We hosted pizza night + my go-getter friend Lara (dietitian/ creator of the Well Fed Guide ) came over, b o o m. synergy.  we decided every month would feature a new recipe + dinner theme to share... starting with this post!

- DELICIOUS + NUTRITIOUS -

"pizza doesn't have to be covered in guilt, especially when you make your own at home.  Go heavy on the veggies (or fruit in this peach pizza case!) for added fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Go lighter on the cheese and you have a balanced meal:  whole grain crust, fruit and protein from dairy or whatever other animal/ plant based sources you may choose"  - Lara, The Well Fed Guide

DSC_0841.jpg

My thoughts: it wouldn't be a dinner party without a pretty table + fresh flowers. I found this gorgeous peachy colored cloth at Pottery Barn to add to the theme.  (know: this is not full size for a 8ft table, this was on a smaller table + usually used as a "throw" over a regular table cloth) I went to our local whole foods for the flowers and just kept the arrangement all white since the print was a bit dramatic.

Finally, who knew marble coasters made amazing "placecards" ? You can write on them using this pen (usually for wine glasses but it worked perfectly on this).  When you are finished it is easily removed with a little soap + water.

Thanks for following along - until next month.

SUMMER LOVE AT SYCAMORE FARMS.

hayley + tucker's beautiful summer wedding was held at sycamore farms in arrington, tennessee. | the day was pretty close to perfect but nothing compared to the amount of love present.  it was a joy planning their special day + this couple is as sweet as it seems. (just try to watch their video without tearing up).

HaleyTucker166.JPG

Hayley from day one said I LOVE SUNFLOWERS so that was it.  the florals, from Knestrick by Design, added a beautiful pop of yellow to all spaces + contrasted perfectly with the grey + white linen scheme chosen from Southern Rentals

It was a day to remember + all beautifully captured by Love is a Big Deal.

LET'S GO OUTDOORS.

Now that August has arrived we can finally start planning the outdoor hang outs.  Plus- If you haven't made a trip to World Market lately you should add it on your to do list. Here's a little recap of the goodies I found on my last visit to hopefully inspire you to go outdoors .

I'm ALWAYS drawn to a black + white combo, so naturally when I found these aztec napkins they had to come home with me.  They make such an impact that I decided to leave everything else pretty neutral- then these ratan placemats brought a beachy element that I love so much.  Finally, I found beautiful monstera leaves that added the touch of green to tie it all together!

So cheers to you August! I am ready to stay outdoors.

THE JOURNEY.

No one is ever perfect, and we are all a work in progress.  In this journey called life there are things that we do knowing at the time they may not be right for us.

By doing those things you learn a lot but most importantly... you grow.

I grew up in Destin, Florida and I have been working since I was 14, I truly enjoy working + have done many things people would probably walk away from: cleaned toilets, mopped floors (after many children lost their lunch on them), churned butter (?yes, weird.), waited tables (people can be horrible), cleaned fish, sold beer on a golf course... the list goes on.  BUT what I realized a year after college was...well that was all fun but it was time to get focused.  I have been event planning for a few years now for a wonderful company in Nashville- I knew I loved it but I kept wanting more.

I LOVE putting together an event or design project for someone else. I have always had an intense passion for everything design.

Seeing the outcome of an event is incredibly rewarding: bonding with clients + month's of hard work that come together in a matter of hours.  Specifically weddings: it's especially an amazing honor to be apart of someone's "best day ever". At almost every one of my weddings I feel a sense of accomplishment for contributing to society in a positive way.

However, as much as I enjoyed this I still wanted to create something that felt like ME.  I have always worked for someone else and being raised by an entrepreneur father I decided at a young age that was what I wanted, whatever it may be, I wanted to be the designer of my OWN life.

DSC_0455.jpg

I kept reflecting on what "success" meant to me. Right when I moved to Nashville (six years ago this fall) I fell in love with a home/ the entire street...Cedar Lane (in between belmont+12s).  I always thought of it as the ultimate "GOALS".  Although my husband + I don't live there: that's what it will always represent to me: "GOALS" to work towards designing my own life

Creating The Cedar Lane is a compilation of everything I love and want to share with others: it's my style, my interests, my dreams and my way of creating freedom. Hopefully throughout this process I can bring inspiration + positivity to those who seek it.  Although my path was a a tad bumpy and my destination is still unknown at least I am doing it instead of wondering "what if".

Thanks for following along. -Molly

SUMMER BIRTHDAY SOIRÉE

One of my favorite things to do is entertain in our home.  I love gathering items and creating a theme for each dinner party.  Since it's summer in Nashville, there is no way this party could be outside, my blank space of a dining room (work in progress) was the perfect location for a fresh, modern, ROSÉ filled gathering.

I love mixing up chairs, so for this I brought in our CB2 loveseat (ON SALE RIGHT NOW!) that usually is located on our front porch. I love the clean lines of the loveseat + the [deceiving] fact that it's actually comfortable.

For the table I incorporated my "go to" black/ white stripe paper runner from Hester + Cook, mixed in some pieces I had around my house, and whipped up some fun florals to bring in a little color;

Other items for the table: these Jonathan Adler vases are usually in a clump of three on my console table | Antique milk glass container for the florals (see below) | geometric water glasses | gold chargers | black flatware (on sale right now!) | beautiful calligraphy from local, Val Cole

A good party is never complete without good wine, I love creating little vignette's to show off the assortment so people feel free to open/ top themselves off at any point.

I am a true believer in mixing old/ new and high\low prices which will always be the case in all my tablescapes. I also love incorporating things that have meaning to me, such as the focal point floral vase in the center of the table.  My sweet (and very stylish) grandma gave me that for Christmas one year and I love being able to use it for gatherings like this!

Hopefully you leave this post feeling inspired + thirsty!

Cheers friends, Molly
